The Leadership Crisis: Dr. Corrie Block Faculty Member at Monarch Challenges the Coaching Status Quo at TEDx
In his riveting TEDx talk, Dr. Corrie Block—renowned executive coach and fculty member at Monarch Business School Switzerland—delivers a compelling case for why high-performance leaders need coaching just as much as elite athletes. Using the example of Michael Phelps and his coach Bob Bowman, Dr. Block masterfully dismantles the myth of the “self-made” executive, highlighting the dangerous misconception that top business leaders can thrive without strategic, psychological, and performance-oriented support. Drawing from real-world executive scenarios, he illustrates how executive coaching—done right—can transform not only individual performance but also the trajectory of entire organizations.
Dr. Block’s argument is clear: executive coaching should not be seen as remedial or optional, but as essential. He challenges outdated coaching norms that rely solely on non-advisory models, asserting instead that Olympic-level executives require more than just powerful questions—they require tactical insight, ethical courage, and domain competence. This message aligns closely with the leadership philosophy at Monarch Business School, where executive development is approached through both scholarly rigor and real-world application. As a member of the Monarch faculty, Dr. Block embodies the institution’s mission to cultivate transformational leaders who are ethically grounded, strategically agile, and performance-driven.
At Monarch, we are proud to see our Faculty Members like Dr. Block leading global conversations on leadership excellence and redefining industry standards. His TEDx presentation is not just an academic endorsement of coaching—it is a call to action for executives, coaches, and institutions alike to raise the bar. The talk exemplifies the type of critical, praxis-oriented thought leadership we encourage across our programs, and it stands as a powerful testament to the values embedded in all our Doctoral programs and curriculum. We invite all students, alumni, and professionals to reflect on Dr. Block’s message and consider what Olympic-level performance truly demands.
