Current · Practical · Hands-on

Move from functional expertise to a broader management perspective.

Management decisions rarely sit neatly within one department. A change in operating performance affects customers, people and financial results. A strategic choice must be translated into priorities that others can understand and act upon. The AMP helps you connect these responsibilities and approach them with a more coherent view of the organisation.

Designed for practising managers and professionals developing their managerial capabilities, the programme brings enduring concepts into realistic decisions, useful tools and worked examples. You can complete it independently, without employer sponsorship, compulsory group work or campus attendance.

It is a complete programme in its own right and the common first stage of the MMI MBA in Management Practice—giving your learning a clear foundation and a route for further development.

Five courses. One connected management foundation.

Complete the foundation ethics course first, then progress through the five management courses in sequence. Each management course comprises three modules and awards three MMI-Credits each.

Before the programme

MMI Ethical Decision Making for Managers

Establish a foundation in managerial responsibility, ethical reasoning and defensible choices under organisational pressure. This substantive three-module course is mandatory and non-credit, and successful completion earns an MMI Certificate of Knowledge.

Select a course title to open or close its overview. These programme summaries introduce the planned learning; individual course pages will follow.

01Managing Organisations and People3 modules · 3 MMI-Credits

Effective management begins with understanding how people and organisations work together. This course introduces the leadership, organisational behaviour and people management concepts that help managers create the conditions for productive, purposeful work. You will explore how motivation, relationships, team dynamics and organisational structure influence performance, and why the same management approach does not suit every situation. The emphasis is on recognising what a situation requires and choosing a response that supports both people and organisational priorities.

You will learn to look beyond individual behaviour and consider the wider context: how responsibilities are defined, how decisions are communicated and how expectations shape everyday working relationships. The course connects these ideas to familiar managerial challenges, including coordinating a team, clarifying accountability, supporting engagement and responding constructively when performance falls short. It encourages thoughtful leadership rather than reliance on authority alone.

By the end, you will have a stronger foundation for interpreting people-related challenges and explaining your management choices. You will be better prepared to connect individual contributions with shared objectives, ask useful questions about organisational arrangements and approach leadership conversations with greater confidence. This foundation supports the strategy, finance, operations and decision-making courses that follow, helping you see people management as part of the whole organisation.

02Strategy, Customers and Value3 modules · 3 MMI-Credits

Strategy becomes useful when it explains whom an organisation serves, what value it creates and how its choices fit together. This course introduces strategic positioning, customer needs and competitive advantage through the lens of everyday management practice. You will explore how organisations decide where to compete, how they distinguish themselves and why customer understanding must inform more than marketing alone. The aim is to connect strategic thinking with choices about priorities, resources and the experience an organisation delivers.

You will learn to examine the relationship between an organisation’s capabilities and the value its customers seek. Rather than treating strategy as a statement on a presentation slide, the course encourages you to ask what a proposed direction requires in practice. Which activities matter most? Where are resources being spread too thinly? How might a decision strengthen one source of value while weakening another? These questions build a practical basis for discussing opportunity and trade-offs.

By the end, you will be better equipped to interpret strategic priorities and contribute to conversations about customers, positioning and value creation. You will learn to explain how functional decisions support the broader direction of the organisation, helping you move from responding to immediate demands towards making choices with a clearer sense of purpose.

03Using Financial Information within Managerial Decision-Making3 modules · 3 MMI-Credits

Managers do not need to become accountants to make better use of financial information. They do need to understand what the numbers suggest, which questions to ask and how financial consequences connect with operational choices. This course develops that foundation by introducing essential financial information in the context of planning, performance and everyday management decisions. It helps you approach financial conversations with greater confidence while recognising when specialist advice or further evidence is needed.

You will explore how financial information can inform priorities, resource allocation and assessments of performance. The course encourages you to connect reported results with the activities and decisions behind them, rather than viewing figures in isolation. You will consider how assumptions affect a financial judgement and why apparently attractive choices may carry costs, risks or timing implications that deserve closer attention. The emphasis remains on interpretation and responsible managerial use, not technical accounting expertise.

By the end, you will be better prepared to discuss financial implications with colleagues, challenge unsupported assumptions and explain the reasoning behind a proposed decision. You will gain a more practical vocabulary for working across finance and other functions. This capability supports a broader management perspective in which customer value, people, operations and financial performance are considered together rather than as competing concerns.

04Operations and Performance Management3 modules · 3 MMI-Credits

Organisations create value through the work they repeatedly perform. This course examines how processes, capacity, quality and productivity shape that work and influence the experience of customers and colleagues. It introduces operations and performance management as practical responsibilities that extend beyond manufacturing into services, administration and other organisational settings. You will learn to look at how work moves through a system and where the conditions for reliable performance can be strengthened.

The course connects operating decisions with the priorities they are intended to serve. You will explore how a process can be assessed, why performance measures need context and how improvement efforts can become distracted by symptoms rather than underlying issues. Attention is given to the relationships between quality, available capacity, demand and the use of resources. These connections help managers recognise that improving one activity does not always improve the overall result.

By the end, you will be better equipped to describe an operating problem, ask focused questions about performance and identify sensible priorities for improvement. You will learn to discuss processes with colleagues in a more structured way and distinguish useful evidence from assumptions. The goal is a practical foundation for making work more dependable, supporting customer value and connecting daily operating performance with wider organisational objectives.

05Managerial Decision-Making and Problem Solving3 modules · 3 MMI-Credits

A well-framed problem is the starting point for a better management decision. This course brings together the foundations of the AMP by examining how managers define problems, evaluate information and choose a defensible course of action when certainty is limited. You will explore why an urgent symptom may not be the underlying problem and how untested assumptions can narrow the options considered. The emphasis is on improving the quality of reasoning rather than searching for a formula that removes judgement.

You will learn to separate what is known from what is inferred, consider alternative explanations and recognise common sources of bias. The course encourages you to examine the consequences of different choices for people, customers, operations and financial performance. It also considers how to communicate a recommendation so that others can understand the evidence, assumptions and trade-offs behind it. This makes decision-making a shared organisational capability, not simply an individual act.

By the end, you will have a more structured approach to working through unfamiliar or ambiguous management situations. You will be better prepared to ask useful questions, weigh competing priorities and explain why one response is more appropriate than another. These habits support confident action while preserving the willingness to revise a judgement when new information becomes available.

Before you begin

Your questions, answered.

When can I start the programme? Does it have cohorts?

From 1 October 2026, you can enrol and begin the foundation ethics course immediately. Once completed, you progress through the five management courses at your own pace. Individual enrolment means you can start when you are ready, with no need to wait for a cohort or group intake.

Do I need a university degree or a management title?

No prior university degree or formal management title is required. Two or more years of managerial experience is beneficial, but is not a programme admission requirement.

How are the programme course fees paid?

You pay for each course individually, in advance of starting that course, rather than paying for the entire programme at once. This pay-as-you-progress approach spreads the cost of your learning, supports flexible budgeting and makes professional development more accessible. Current Professional Members receive a 10% course-fee discount.

Do I need Professional Membership to study?

You may begin as a Registered Member. Professional Membership is optional and costs €50 annually, providing a 10% discount on course fees purchased while your membership is current. Joining before purchasing your courses can help you make your learning budget go further. Professional designation requirements remain separate.

How long will the programme take?

The programme is organised by modules, not fixed calendar weeks. Each module normally represents approximately 6–8 hours of learning. You control your pace within the prescribed sequence and may take breaks between courses.

Is employer sponsorship or a workplace project required?

No. Practical relevance is developed through management situations, tools and decisions. Independent completion does not depend on employer sponsorship, a workplace project, group participation or physical attendance.
