Dr. Barsoum Published in Emerald Journal: Advancing Research on Women’s Entrepreneurship
Monarch Switzerland is pleased to announce that Dr. Barsoum has been published in a leading academic journal by Emerald Publishing, marking a significant milestone in the continued scholarly contributions emerging from the Monarch academic community. Her article, titled “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Developing Economies,” appears in the Journal of Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies and reflects a refined extension of her doctoral research conducted at Monarch. This publication stands as a strong example of how doctoral inquiry at Monarch evolves into peer-reviewed academic output with global relevance.
Dr. Barsoum’s publication represents more than an individual accomplishment, it is a reflection of the research culture at Monarch, where doctoral work is expected to extend beyond submission and into the wider academic and professional community. We extend our congratulations to Dr. Barsoum on this important achievement and look forward to her continued contributions to both scholarship and practice.
From Doctoral Inquiry to Published Scholarship
Dr. Barsoum’s work demonstrates the trajectory that Monarch encourages among its candidates: moving beyond theoretical exploration toward meaningful, applied, and publishable research. Her study explores the structural, social, and institutional factors shaping women’s entrepreneurial participation in developing economies, with a particular emphasis on empowerment mechanisms that extend beyond financial access alone. By grounding her work in lived experience and contextual realities, the research aligns closely with Monarch’s emphasis on qualitative depth and stakeholder meaning. The publication process itself further validates the academic rigor of the original doctoral research, as Emerald journals maintain stringent peer-review standards and international scholarly visibility.
Monarch’s Commitment to Research Excellence
This achievement reflects a broader institutional philosophy. At Monarch, doctoral research is not treated as an isolated academic exercise but rather as the foundation for ongoing scholarly contribution. This approach is embedded within the structure of the PhD in Business Research and the Doctor of Business Administration programs, both of which are designed to guide candidates from initial inquiry through to the development of rigorous, publishable research. For those seeking to integrate both academic depth and applied relevance, the dual degree pathway further reinforces this progression by combining the strengths of both doctoral frameworks within a unified research journey.
All programs are aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), ensuring that research outcomes meet internationally recognized standards of academic rigor, intellectual independence, and scholarly contribution. Within this structure, candidates are encouraged to produce work that is methodologically sound, grounded in qualitative inquiry, and anchored in the lived experiences of stakeholders. At the same time, strong emphasis is placed on positioning research for dissemination through peer-reviewed journals and academic conferences, extending its relevance beyond the doctoral submission itself.
Dr. Barsoum’s publication exemplifies this approach, reinforcing Monarch’s identity as a principled academic sanctuary where research is cultivated with both intellectual depth and practical significance.
Advancing Women in Management and Entrepreneurship
Beyond its academic merit, the article contributes to an increasingly important global discourse: the role of women in entrepreneurship within emerging and developing markets. By addressing systemic barriers while highlighting pathways to empowerment, the research offers both scholarly insight and managerial relevance, making it valuable to academics, policymakers, and practitioners alike. This focus also reflects Monarch’s continued commitment to supporting research that engages with social impact, ethical leadership, and inclusive economic development.
