The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Research at Monarch Switzerland is a fully online, 36-month doctoral program designed for experienced professionals and aspiring researchers who wish to pursue advanced research while continuing their professional careers, without the need to relocate.

This doctoral program may be completed fully online, including the doctoral defence. No relocation is required. Candidates may select an in-person doctoral defence when offered by Monarch.

Candidates are not expected to arrive with a finished research proposal. It is developed during the programme in conjunction with the Faculty.

Dr. Jeffrey Henderson
Dean of the School · Business Ethics
Dr. Henderson combines academic leadership with senior management experience in commercial real estate and consulting. His research interests include corporate social responsibility, Austrian economics and Catholic social theory. He previously taught at Grenoble Graduate School of Business and McGill University, and holds doctorates in Business Research and Political Economy.
Dr. Norman Madarasz
Philosophy · Ethics · International Geoeconomic Relations
Dr. Madarasz specialises in political philosophy, contemporary French philosophy and international geoeconomic relations. An author and editor, he has supervised more than forty master’s and doctoral projects. He earned his doctorate at Université Paris VIII. His scholarship spans ethics, economics, politics and related fields, with publications in English, French and Portuguese.
Dr. Donald York
Dean of Student Development · Leadership Studies
Dr. York is a Professor of Leadership Studies and an active master’s and doctoral supervisor and dissertation reviewer. His academic interests include leadership, spirituality, organisational culture and group dynamics. He holds a D.Phil. and M.Phil. in Business Research with distinction, an M.A. in Counselling and Spirituality, and a B.A. in Behavioural Neuropsychology.

M.Phil. in Business Research – in passing
The integrated Master of Philosophy in Business Research is formally awarded concurrently with the PhD upon successful completion of the doctoral programme. It recognises the research design, theoretical framing and analytical competence developed during the doctoral journey.
M.Phil. – an approved exit pathway
Candidates who conclude their studies before completing the PhD may qualify for the M.Phil. as a terminal award by submitting a completed five-chapter master’s thesis and meeting the applicable academic requirements, subject to academic review and approval.
Optional dual doctoral pathway
Following academic review, eligible candidates may build upon their PhD with a second, applied doctoral manuscript, such as the DBA, Doctor of Leadership or Doctor of Applied Neuroscience in Management. The pathway is sequential: the PhD establishes original theoretical knowledge, which then supports applied translation and practice-oriented outcomes.
Planning your study
The standard part-time pathway is 36 months. An optional extended-duration pathway has a minimum registration period of 60 months, with lower periodic tuition. These periods are not guaranteed completion times. Completion depends on research progress and fulfilment of academic requirements; tuition remains payable throughout active registration.

Dr. Renier Krige
South Africa · Historical award: PhD in Organisational Dynamics
