The route to Fellowship

Demonstrate scholarship, applied contribution and professional stewardship.

Fellowship brings together sustained professional standing, an established Practice Domain, advanced scholarship, three applied professional cases, ethical leadership, professional references and formal review.

FMI · STEPS 01–04

Standing and scholarship

Establish the foundation for Fellowship review.

STEP 01

Confirm professional standing and experience.

When: Before formal application.
Do: Hold CPM in good standing for at least two years and document at least five years of management experience.
Next: Discuss exceptional-entry eligibility with MMI if you demonstrate substantial external standing and achievement.

STEP 02

Select the appropriate scholarship route.

When: At the beginning of Fellowship preparation.
Do: Choose the MMI Doctor of Professional Studies route or the professional or academic article-portfolio route.
Next: Confirm the route and evidence plan with MMI before undertaking final work.

STEP 03

Confirm your Primary Practice Domain.

When: As the Fellowship portfolio is planned.
Do: Ensure your professional standing, scholarship and applied cases are connected to an established Primary Practice Domain.
Next: Map your scholarship and cases to the Domain.

STEP 04

Complete the scholarship requirement.

When: Before final professional review.
Do: Complete the Fellowship DPS pathway, or present at least three qualifying articles, including at least one new article produced for MMI.
Next: Organise the work and supporting evidence for review.

Two scholarship routes. One Fellow standard.

Article portfolio routePresent qualifying professional or academic articles at the Fellow standard.
MMI contributionProduce at least one new article for MMI with appropriate institutional affiliation.

Previously published work remains subject to MMI quality approval. Where three qualifying published articles already exist, the new MMI article is an additional fourth article.

Fellowship recognises practitioners who transform experience into scholarship and scholarship into meaningful professional impact.

FMI · STEPS 05–08

Evidence, review and contribution

Demonstrate your scholarship and enter the College of Fellows.

STEP 05

Prepare three applied professional cases.

When: After the scholarship route and Practice Domain are established.
Do: Present three business, management or consulting cases showing analysis, judgement, implementation and reflective contribution.
Next: Assemble the complete Fellowship portfolio.

STEP 06

Submit the Fellowship application.

When: When standing, scholarship, cases and professional evidence are ready.
Do: Submit the portfolio, résumé, Domain record, three recent professional references and the applicable €250 application fee.
Next: Prepare to present the cases and scholarship.

STEP 07

Complete presentation and formal review.

When: After the complete application is accepted for review.
Do: Present the required work, answer evaluation questions and complete the formal professional review.
Next: Receive the outcome and, if approved, Fellowship standing.

STEP 08

Enter the College of Fellows and contribute.

When: Only after formal approval, then throughout each continuing cycle.
Do: Use the FMI post-nominal, retain CPM, maintain fees and ethics, and remain active through learning, scholarship, engagement and MMI service.
Next: Continue contributing to the professional and institutional life of MMI.

Applicant versus Fellow standing

Fellow applicant: completing or presenting the scholarship, cases and evidence required for review; not yet entitled to use FMI. Fellow of the MMI: formally approved and entitled to use FMI while both CPM and Fellowship remain in good standing.

Maintain your standing

  • Complete 10 MMI-Credits during each two-year cycle, with at least 5 related to the Primary Practice Domain.
  • Produce at least one substantive MMI-approved article during each rolling three-year period.
  • Maintain membership, annual fees, ethics and accurate Domain records.

Engage and serve

  • Participate in at least one relevant external professional, academic, industry or public-policy event during each two-year cycle.
  • Complete at least one qualifying MMI service or ambassadorship activity during each cycle.

The €250 application fee is non-refundable and exclusive of applicable taxes. Fellowship is conferred only after every applicable standing, scholarship, case, evidence, reference and formal-review requirement is completed.
