Dr. Janine Zitianellis holds a Doctor of Business Administration and M.Phil. in Business Research from Monarch Business School Switzerland, an MSc in Data Analytics and Operations Management from Arden University, and a postgraduate diploma in Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of Texas at Austin. She is currently enrolled in the MIT IDSS program in AI and Data Science.
At Monarch, she holds the position of Director of the Doctor of Applied Behavioural Data Science program and also supports curriculum development, instructional design and program operations across the Bachelor, Master and Doctoral program in support of the Dean. Dr. Zitianellis is enrolled within the Monarch Post-Doctoral program. Her post-doctoral research focusses on Behavioural Adaptation and Cultural Meaning-Making in Business Organisations.
Her research focuses on applied data science, responsible AI, behavioural research, business analytics, and decision support. Her doctoral work explored the use of AI and machine learning to improve clinical trial patient recruitment, integrating health behaviour theory, natural language processing, and predictive modelling. Her broader interests include ethical data analysis, machine learning in business, data visualisation, operations and supply chain analytics, risk analysis, and mixed-methods research.
As an educator, Dr. Zitianellis contributes to academic and executive data education. She is Head Tutor for the Economist Education course Data Storytelling and Visualisation, supporting learners in data communication and analysis. She has also served as a Course Assessor for this course and currently assesses work for the University of Cape Town Data Skills Accelerator programme, with a focus on fair evaluation, feedback, and student outcomes.
Professionally, she has experience in data science, analytics, financial services, retail, supply chain, operations, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. She has worked with organisations including SubjectWell, IQbusiness, PBT Group, Sanlam, and Standard Bank Group, developing solutions in forecasting, segmentation, anomaly detection, data quality, credit analytics, and reporting. She is committed to ethical and responsible data use, is associated with the Algorithmic Justice League’s Agents for Change initiative, and supports community projects focused on animal welfare and education.
She has published research on big data analytics and supply chain management, as well as on AI/ML applications in clinical trial recruitment. She has presented at events including the Applied AI Summit and the 21st Century Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Conference.
