CPM · STEPS 01–04

Prepare and align

Build the foundation for CPM review.

STEP 01

Establish professional standing and experience.

When: Before formal application.
Do: Become a Professional Member in good standing and document at least two years of management experience.
Next: Confirm the educational route you will use.

STEP 02

Complete or confirm the MBA route.

When: Before final professional review.
Do: Complete the twelve-course MMI MBA, or submit an external MBA for individual MMI evaluation.
Next: Organise transcripts or supporting documentation if requested.

STEP 03

Substantiate your Primary Practice Domain.

When: As your professional evidence is assembled.
Do: Define one established Primary Practice Domain; a separately supported Secondary Domain may also be considered.
Next: Connect the Domain to your learning, experience and applied case.

STEP 04

Complete MMI practice and ethics requirements.

When: Before case review and final admission.
Do: Complete Chartered Management Practice, professional consulting, advanced ethical decision-making and ethics-charter requirements.
Next: Prepare the applied management or consulting case.

Two educational routes. One professional standard.

External MBARequest individual evaluation of a recognised, substantially management-focused MBA.
CAM is not requiredQualified applicants may apply directly for CPM.

An accepted external MBA may satisfy only the educational component. It does not automatically exempt an applicant from MMI practice, consulting, ethics, applied-case, evidence or formal-review requirements.

CPM · STEPS 05–08

Demonstration and recognition

Show how advanced knowledge becomes responsible professional judgement.

STEP 05

Develop and document your applied case.

When: After the Practice Domain is established.
Do: Prepare a substantial management or consulting case showing analysis, decision-making, implementation and reflective learning.
Next: Assemble the complete application evidence.

STEP 06

Submit the CPM application.

When: When the education, experience, practice, ethics and case requirements are ready.
Do: Submit evidence, résumé, domain record and the applicable €150 application fee.
Next: Prepare to present the case and answer evaluation questions.

STEP 07

Complete case presentation and formal review.

When: After the complete application is accepted for review.
Do: Present the professional case and complete the formal evaluation process.
Next: Receive the outcome and, if approved, CPM standing.

STEP 08

Use and maintain your CPM designation.

When: Only after formal approval, then throughout each two-year cycle.
Do: Use the CPM post-nominal, maintain membership, fees, ethics, continuing learning and accurate Domain records.
Next: Build sustained contribution and leadership towards Fellowship.

Application versus CPM standing

CPM Applicant: completing or presenting the evidence required for review; not yet entitled to use CPM. Chartered Professional Manager: formally approved after completing every requirement; entitled to use CPM while maintaining professional standing.

Maintain your standing

  • Keep Professional Membership and annual fees current.
  • Complete the MMI courses prescribed for each two-year cycle.
  • Ensure at least half of required learning relates to the Primary Practice Domain.

Progress towards Fellowship

Fellowship recognises sustained senior contribution, professional leadership and service to management practice. It does not replace CPM: a Fellow retains CPM while both standings remain in good standing.
