A Framework For Sustainable Water Supply Needs: A Case Study Of South Africa

Monarch is happy to announce the recently authorised research proposal by PhD in Leadership Candidate Mr. Hudson Maila. His research focuses on the important issue of how leadership affects the availability of sustainable water supply. Mr. Maila brings consider knowledge to the research having worked in the industry for decades.

The Research

Sustainable water supply is a problem in many parts of the world. Central to the problem is the lack of adequate water supply which has engulfed the sub-Saharan Africa region. In South Africa, similar negative effects show deficiencies in meeting water supply needs in a sustainable manner. The deficiencies are linked to the estimated 5.3 million households with limited access to water, making the situation deeply concerning because this figure is above the estimated global average rate of 3.7 million people per country. If these challenges are not overcome, one possible impact is a diminished water supply that may lead to a lack of clean drinking water, degeneration of human health and environmental standards, as well as excessive disruption to economic activities.

The focus of this research will be on the water supply system in South Africa. The research will employ a qualitative inquiry approach in accordance with the Monarch Standard Research Process Flow. A triangulated research approach will be used to review the scholarly literature, including content analysis of existing data and interviewing key stakeholders. A review of the scholarly literature for leadership, governance and social justice will be undertaken. The aim of this research is to develop a new conceptual framework, that can inform the policy and strategy to meet sustainable water supply needs in South Africa.
