Room To Read is a non-profit organization that envisions a world in which all children can pursue a quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world. To achieve this goal, Room To Read focuses on two areas where they believe they can have the greatest impact: literacy and gender equality in education. They work in collaboration with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond. Today, there are more than 770 million illiterate people in the world and over 300 million children who are not enrolled in school. Ninety-eight percent of these children live in Asia or sub-Saharan Africa. Room to Read is working hard to change this.Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children’s literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls. The organization seeks to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations. We hope you will join me in supporting Room to Read as we transform the lives of millions children in the developing world – one book, one child, one community at a time.
