Course Description

This course is designed to prepare graduate students with the core knowledge and skills for designing qualitative, academic and applied, research in business and management, including understanding of data coding and analysis techniques. In this course, students explore the nature of qualitative inquiry; fieldwork strategies and the nature of observation; approaches to phenomenological research methods. Students will also explore and perform an in-depth study of case-based research approach. They use software to code data and interpret and present result. The key focus is on learning and appreciation of qualitative research methods and how to effectively design, conduct, and present a research study using these qualitative approaches. Through the use of readings, assignments, and a research project, students will build upon their existing skills and knowledge and develop the critical competency in choosing and applying appropriate qualitative research methods and tools upon which to develop transferable skills and capabilities for managing research projects through professional practice.

Course / Module Professor

Dr. Hassan Qudrat-Ullah holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Management Studies at UGSM-Monarch Business School Switzerland. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and an M.Phil. in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen in Norway. He also holds a M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from B.Z. University, Multan, Pakistan and a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan. Dr. Qudrat-Ullah completed his post-doctoral training at Carnegie-Mellon University, USA. At present, he is a Professor of Decision Sciences at York University in Toronto, Canada. He has also held visiting or adjunct professorships at: King Fahd University Saudi Arabia, Konkuk University Korea, Walden University USA, Durham University UK, University of Liverpool UK, University of Surrey UK, the National University Singapore, University of Chicago Singapore, PAUWES, University of Tlemcen Algeria, and the University of Bergen Norway.
