Course Description

This course is designed to prepare graduate students with the core knowledge and skills for designing quantitative, academic and applied, research in business and management, including understanding data analysis and applying statistical concepts. The course aims to give students an in-depth understanding of key concepts and principles of research design in business and management, including the importance and process of identification of researchable problems and ethical implications of conducting quantitative research and producing knowledge for better decision making. Students will have the opportunities to understand different ways of applying, testing, and constructing theories, different techniques of research design, and a battery of statistical techniques in business and management research. Students will also use statistical software to calculate statistics data and interpret and present results. They will apply the learned knowledge and skills by developing a quantitative research project. Through the use of readings, assignments, and a research project, students will build upon their existing skills and knowledge and develop the critical competency in choosing and applying appropriate statistical methods and tools upon which to develop transferable skills and capabilities for managing research projects through professional practice.

Course / Module Professor

Dr. Hassan Qudrat-Ullah holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Management Studies at UGSM-Monarch Business School Switzerland. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and an M.Phil. in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen in Norway. He also holds a M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from B.Z. University, Multan, Pakistan and a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan. Dr. Qudrat-Ullah completed his post-doctoral training at Carnegie-Mellon University, USA. At present, he is a Professor of Decision Sciences at York University in Toronto, Canada. He has also held visiting or adjunct professorships at: King Fahd University Saudi Arabia, Konkuk University Korea, Walden University USA, Durham University UK, University of Liverpool UK, University of Surrey UK, the National University Singapore, University of Chicago Singapore, PAUWES, University of Tlemcen Algeria, and the University of Bergen Norway.
