It is a pleasure for the administration to announce that Dr. Sotiris Karkalakos has joined the Faculty of Economics as Professor of Economics. Dr. Karkalakos holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) and an M.Sc. in Financial Economics from Florida Atlantic University (USA). He graduated Summa Cum Laude in Economics (B.A.) from the University of Piraeus (Greece).
His work combines expertise in valuation strategy of real estate assets, spatial allocation of financial activity and competition effects. He is interested in the design of spatial networks mostly likely to promote sales or reallocate resources (i.e., transfer pricing). Moreover, he has expertise in the analysis of property market trends, capital and credit market performance, and the identification of systemic risk in commercial mortgage portfolios.
He is an active academic who attends numerous international conferences. He regularly publishes papers in international journals as well as sitting as editorial and referee on other international journals. He enjoys supporting students in their thesis work and has supervised theses at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), University of Exeter (UK) and Keele University (UK).
